Our Unique Program

Our unique program delivers local grass fed beef at a standard for quality and transparency that is simply not available elsewhere on the market. We stand apart for a reason- grounded in our values and our commitment to sustainability and excellence, our nerdiness on genetics and grass finishing, and our special landscape that provides all the cattle need to grow fat and happy. You receive only the best meat with a story you can feel good about sharing with your family and friends.

100% Grassfed

Grassfed and finished from the beginning to the end.

Transparent Practices

Come and see for yourself, ask any questions.

Exquisite Quality

Cream of the crop, high quality, unobtainable elsewhere.

Beef
A Cut Above.

We take seriously the trust you place in us to provide quality food for your family and friends. Our commitment to excellence begins with sourcing specific cattle genetics ensuring that we raise healthy and robust animals that finish fat on pasture and grazing specifically as grass fed beef in Northern California. A cow with genetics from a middle America grain feedlot simply will not mature into excellent coastal California grass fed beef. Genetics, feed quality, and calm handling all play major roles in quality. We take great pride managing high-quality nutritive feed for the cattle timing their grazing in the pastureland that not only benefits the cattle but also supports the ecosystem as a whole. In addition, we partner with artisanal local butchers and processors who share our values, ensuring that the local meat you receive is handled with care and expertise. Our goal is to raise the quality of grass fed beef that we cannot find elsewhere for our own family table and share it with our friends and neighbors.

The Science

The Why

We started with the intention to restore the land. Questions lead us. How do we garden and tend the hills? What does a healthy landscape and ecosystem look like? Smell like? Feel like? The answer in general was herbivory. Regenerative disturbance. Cattle became the tool with which we heal the land. Like all tools and technologies, they can be used with skill and precision, or mismanaged and cause damage. We spend our focus on healing and building the earth using our tools with great care. In our land management work we partner with Sonoma Mountain Institute. Across 8 ranches they have over 90 vegetation, 20+ bird and 20+ soil monitoring points to observe impacts and benefits of our grazing program. This allows us to keep a pulse on the quality and positive impact grazing provides, and guides us to continue or shift our management depending on the feedback. We don't just say we're improving the ecosystem, we have the data to back it up.

Regenerative Agriculture
The People

The Who

We are a family run business including Byron and Alessa, our children and the dogs. We work with an amazing team of people who are committed to regenerating ecology and producing healthy, tasty beef. Byron and Alessa met in a permaculture gardening program in Bolinas, and were introduced there to the idea of cattle being incredible tools to garden large landscapes. We believe that properly managed herbivores are one of the best tools for healing the land. Through numerous mentors, workshops, books and now experience, we continue to grow and learn how to better take care of the land. We started Grounded Grassfed in 2017 with the desire to raise our own high-quality grass fed beef and feed our friends and neighbors. We continue to do so today and are thrilled by everyone who has been on this journey and committed to our beef program year after year. Bringing our children along with us on this journey, and working with the wonderful team we have, makes the "work" of it all a bit brighter.
